It is customary for us to put on an end of course degree show to celebrate our students achievements at the end of their studies. Due to the Covid 19 pandemic, and the lockdown that forced all students to end their studies at home, it is with great pride that we are able to show their incredible success despite the obstacles and frustrations they faced. The Final project was conducted through online tutorials, Microsoft teams meetings, and the students own initiative and resilience to work under extremely hard conditions. It is a huge testament to their characters that they fought on in this climate and had the skills and determination to get the most out of a challenging situation. The result is some extremely exciting proposals for the re-purpose of found buildings. Each student chose a building of interest to them, and hypothetically re-designed the building to suit another purpose. The result of each project reflects the interests, direction and personality of the student.
The course has been a mixture of practical and academic skills with a lot of theoretical research and some of this can be seen in the work, such as the attention to ethics and sustainability which is such a topical subject and paramount consideration in the future of the built environment. Over the course the students have worked with external experts and clients, as each project is designed to be as close to industry as possible. Our students emerge with not only an industry standard skill set, but the confidence to deal with clients directly and present their projects to a professional audience. They leave the course ready for immediate employment.
